“A Tribute to Felix Napao – Galura: Commemorating the 159th Birth Anniversary of Bacolor’s Distinguished Scholar and Revolutionary”
The Municipality of Bacolor, under the esteemed leadership of Mayor Eduardo G. Diman Datu, in collaboration with the Paliping Galura (Heirs of Galura), convened in a solemn and unified celebration to honor the birthday of one of Bacolor’s most distinguished sons, Felix Napao Galura.
This significant occasion was also graced by the presence of officials from Don Honorario Ventura State University (DVHSU), including prominent faculty members and administrators. Their participation underscored the profound historical connection between the University and the Municipality of Bacolor. The commemoration of Felix Napao-Galura’s 159th birth anniversary offered a distinguished opportunity to reflect on his significant contributions to Bacolor. His role as a scholar, writer, revolutionary, and advocate for Kapampangan culture was emphasized, underscoring his lasting influence on the town’s cultural and historical identity.
A key highlight of the event was the flower tribute at the foot of Galura’s monument, located in Barangay Cabambangan. The floral offering, alongside with the Municipal Officials represented by Voltaire, San Pedro, Municipal Tourism Officer, together with the Heirs of Galura, DVHSU officials, including Vice President for Student affairs, Dolores Quiambao and Rowell Cruz, Head of the office of Culture and Arts, local poets, and other distinguished guests, stood as a meaningful tribute to Felix Napao-Galura’s enduring legacy.
In addition, the local poets (Poeta Laureados) offered heartfelt accolades in the form of poetry, paying homage to Galura’s significant contributions to Kapampangan literature and culture. These poetic tributes further emphasized the deep respect the community holds for Galura’s work in preserving the history, language, and identity of Bacolor, often dubbed as the “Athens of Pampanga”.
Galura’s unwavering commitment to the promotion of Kapampangan identity continues to inspire a deep sense of pride within the community, motivating successive generations to remain closely connected to their roots and uphold their traditions. The celebration stands as a fitting reminder of the lasting impact Felix Napao-Galura on the historical and cultural fabric of Bacolor and the broader province of Pampanga, ensuring that his remarkable legacy will continue to inspire and educate future generations.
After the formal program, attendees gathered at the Bacolor Municipal Multipurpose Hall for a food reception, offering a warm and communal conclusion to the day’s celebration.

Translation of Works – He translated literary classics, such as Jose Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere”, into Kapampangan, making these important works more accessible to local readers.
Advocate for Education – Through his writings, he encouraged the importance of education and fostered a love of learning in the community.
Nationalist Ideals – Galura’s works often reflected his deep love for the country and his advocacy for Filipino nationalism, aligning with the fight for independence and strengthening local patriotism.
